Monmouthshire Youth Circus Company is Dance Blast’s Youth Contemporary Circus Company, set up in 2022 with thanks to funding from Arts Council Wales.

MYCC supports young performers through weekly company classes, masterclass opportunities, and regular performance experiences. Classes focus on the artistic development of circus skills, exploring movement quality, character development, and facilitate workshops and projects which researches themes and ideas through circus.

MYCC has performed at various festivals, including Green Man, Big Love Festival, and the Abergavenny Food Festival, creating aerial, acrobatic, hula hoop, and stilt-walking performances.

In 2023, MYCC took part in a Welsh Youth Circus Development residential weekend at Circus Village, where they attended classes in handstands, acrobatics, aerial and clowning based in the NoFit State's big top.   Company members regularly participate in skills development sessions with specialised trainers including swinging trapeze with Lyndal Merry and masterclass workshops with Collective Fight Circus.

Members join MYCC through either an audition class or progression from one of our intermediate dance or aerial classes. We ask company members to attend one technique class alongside their company classes.

MYCC classes run on a Friday:

Studio 1

Ignite Project 'Fan Hyn' 2024

MYCC is also involved in our Ignite Project, where members choose and collaborate with new circus directors or explore a new circus discipline.

They have performed on festival stages and taken part in site-specific and immersive performances. Company members are involved in the full creative process, from choreography and character development to costume design.
