In this workshop, Billy Maxwell Taylor will share a 20-minute excerpt from The Motion Pack's meditative performance Rain Pours Like Coffee Drops followed by a Q+A about the work. After a short break, Billy will facilitate a movement class exploring how we use our imagination to create worlds in our bodies and how stillness can be used as an artistic tool. This class draws from elements of butoh, qi gong, physical theatre training and playfulness. The class is designed to be accessible and personal to your own movement ability, so there is no required training beforehand, just a willingness to show up!
“Black dots ebb and flow; through arteries they pump and squeeze and twist in a way that resembles a machine, or system. I am a passing shadow through this city…
Through an intimate encounter where you may sip coffee, tea, daydream or watch with wide eyes, Rain Pours invites you to a time-suspended world where coffee brews slowly and concrete buildings rise from the ground. The textural movement of Billy Maxwell Taylor compliments Sebastian Barrett’s ambient piano score and a series of meditations in English and Welsh, curating a space for contemplation.
Rain Pours Like Coffee Drops offers a moment of stillness in the busyness of working lives. Within 1 in 5 people feeling unable to manage workplace stress, this piece is for those who wants to re-evaluate their relationship to work or those who wish to take some time to unwind and be still.
