SHINE

A Youth Dance Exchange between 

Monmouthshire Youth Dance Company & Expressions.

SHINE is a creative exchange between two community dance youth companies, Dance Blast’s Monmouthshire Youth Dance Company (MYDC) based in Monmouthshire and Rhonda Cynon Taff Community Arts (RCTCA) Expressions dance company based. SHINE will take place over one year April 2011-March 2012.

MYDC is made up of young people between the ages of 12- 20 and Expressions 17 years +. Members of both companies are selected from the grass roots provision delivered by their parent community dance organisations and the criteria for this selection is talent and an enthusiasm for dance.

SHINE is a fantastic tool for young people from two very different counties to meet, work together, share experiences and create connections. The two groups will meet six times during the year for either a two day or four day period. During these meetings they will work creatively together devising and developing two original dance pieces; one by each director. SHINE will culminate in a series of public performances where the specially created collaborative pieces will be performed. Alongside these two combined pieces each youth company will perform a piece from their repertoire. This will give the groups the opportunity to see each other’s performance work and exchange views, creating a dialog about dance and performance between the groups.

This is a unique project in Wales and provides a fantastic opportunity for young people from across the country to meet and work together creatively and is very very exciting!
