Monmouthshire Youth Dance Company (MYDC)

‘Service’ a piece inspired by our Patron Owen Shears poem ‘Service’ performed at Dance Blast’s annual showcase in July 2011.

Monmouthshire Youth Dance Company (MYDC)  is Dance Blast’s flagship youth company.  Set up in 2007 it provides opportunities for young people in Monmouthshire to further develop their dance skills, in particular contemporary dance technique and performance skills.

MYDC is Dance Blast’s flagship youth company supporting and nurturing young talented dancers in the Monmouthshire area.

MYDC is for young people aged 11-25 years with an interest and previous experience in dance to develop their skills further.

MYDC also has a company for ages 8-11 years.

MYDC provides training in contemporary dance technique alongside opportunities to perform and choreograph.

MYDC members are encouraged to attend their regular dance classes, MYDC is there to complement and enhance members dance experience.

MYDC perform at many venues across South Wales.

MYDC members benefit from career advice in dance, individual coaching and apprentice opportunities.

Don’t worry if your previous dance experience is in another style such as ballet, modern or street dance,or even gymnastics. MYDC is led by a fully qualified and experienced dance director  Emma Carlson who ensures that new members are given a little more time to become acquainted with the contemporary style.

How do I join?
Access to MYDC is either through audition or a progression route from one of Dance Blast’s numerous classes throughout the county. If you are interested you can also contact us at Dance Blast to book a trial class where Emma can audition you.When does the group meet?The group meets every Wednesday and every other Saturday during term-time and some school holidays.

What opportunities will I have in MYDC?
MYDC members benefit from theatre trips to see professional dance company performances, participate in guest workshops including National Dance Company Wales and National Youth Dance Wales.

Many MYDC members go on to study dance at vocational dance schools and universities including Northern School of Contemporary Dance, UWIC and Rubicon. Some MYDC members are also in National Dance Company of Wales Associates.
