Why Dance Blast?

Dance Blast is inspirational. They take dance to the community with an enthusiasm,
imagination and dedication that is nothing short of marvelous.
They address each level of society with an infectious vigour that has
changed the attitude of thousands toward dance; serving all ages, abilities and classes and promoting the artform we so love.”

Dance Blast’s work isn’t just about dance. It’s about people taking part, being creative and learning – together. In community dance, the benefits people gain are far wider than just ‘learning to dance’.

What we can offer is:

•    creativity – we believe that true creativity comes from encouraging participants to be part of the process – to think and act creatively, see things from different perspectives, be proactive and not just ‘let it happen’ to them
•    inclusivity – we keep our prices low to encourage everyone to take part in our classes: as a charity, access is at the heart of our approach
•    collaboration – for us, participants are as much a part of the creative process as our tutors/dancers. You won’t find us producing a piece that participants have to perform, because the beauty of community dance is in the creativity of our participants
•    equality – and we don’t judge ability, but treat everyone as being equally important in the contribution they’re able to offer
•    opportunity – for those who want to take dance further, we also offer progression routes such as our youth dance company and GCSE dance
•    community – we’re part of the community here in Monmouthshire: we get to know the children and their families, we take our caring responsibilities seriously, and our door is always open for feedback, questions and comments

The benefits include:

•    improved movement, flexibility and co-ordination
•    an opportunity to work with other people and develop team work and social skills
•    a sense of belonging, being part of the Dance Blast family
•    a sense of purpose and achievement
•    a chance to do something active and involving – an alternative to the TV, DS, PlayStation or Wii!

Dance Blast has delivered high quality community dance for more than 13 years. It has provided workshops for schools, community centres, theatres; GP referral schemes; Women’s Aid; intergenerational projects and the Welsh Assembly Government’s 5×60 sports in schools scheme.
